These images express the disconnect between what is said and what is heard. In failing to use the right words we can cause much distress to the recipient, often unknowingly and unintentionally.
As with some of my previous works, I have pared down the representation of people to the bare minimum – in these cases simply two lines of black ink. The pale lines ‘connecting’ the two black lines represent the communication between two people – the shape on the one line representing what has been expressed and the corresponding shape on the other line representing how that has been received.
The images have a sense of harmony or disharmony depending on the relationship between the shapes on the two lines.
